On 26 April 2008, the Singapore Chinese Garden burst to life in a carnival of song, dance and many other surprises for more than 10,000 visitors.
Young and old of all ethnicities enjoyed over 30 performances by beneficiaries of the Tote Board such as the Chinese Theatre Circle, Bhaskar’s Arts Academy, Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts, the Finger Players and many others.
The highlight of the evening was a performance by the Singapore Chinese Orchestra (SCO), led by up and coming Maestro and star percussionist, Quek Ling Kiong.
Other than being a playground for children to be engaged through story telling about the Chinese hero statues, a treasure hunt and puppetry performances, the carnival was also a platform for Republic Polytechnic students to “busk” their talents at various locations in the garden.
Blessed by glorious weather, FunTasia climaxed in a dramatic musical Friendship Ring around the Main Lake, led by the SCO, the NUSS Choir, OperAsia and a special aerial display of lighted motor kites from GoFlyKite.
