| The programme lined up for Chingay 40th Anniversary come 3 and 4 February 2012 promises to be yet another high-octane display by energetic youths, acclaimed local and overseas artistes and wide range of community groups.
The People’s Association Youth Movement will present the opening item with the longest LED light human dragon involving 800 “dynamic youth warriors.” The performers have been practising for a number of months to perfect their movements for an impressive, futuristic visual spectacle.
Three 18-metre boats powered by heart-filled sails and wings of love, and bearing the corporate logos of Tote Board, Singapore Pools and Singapore Turf Club will lead in the grand finale item. acclaimed local and international artistes, together with 3,000 performers from Singapore Soka Association and Lighthouse School, will join hands to exemplify Chingay’s central theme of “love, care and kindness everywhere.
Through a song specially written by Singapore Cultural Medallion 2010 recipient, Dr Liang Wern Kook, “爱让你看到” “Love will Make You See” which will be sung in part by Yang Hai Tao, a visually-challenged singer who was the soloist at the 2008 Beijing Paralympic Games, Joi Chua, a regional home-grown singer and eight-year-old Vera Tan Tsin. Additionally, some key grassroots leaders will depict the song in sign language.
As founding principal sponsors, the Tote Board family has been supporting Chingay since it began in 1973. It has since grown into an annual national event that promotes community bonding and nation building. In line with the Tote Board family’s mission to help improve the lives of the needy, Singapore Pools is also supporting the Chingay ‘Chair for Cause’ project by bringing 300 beneficiaries from the Society for the Physically Disabled, Handicaps Welfare Association, and Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped to enjoy Chingay 2012.
