i-Friend Celebrated Singapore’s 45th Birthday With Seniors Citizens

Over one hundred senior citizens from the Society For the Aged Sick (SAGE) were treated to a National Day celebration on Saturday afternoon, 7 August 2010. It was organised by 25 volunteers from i-Friend, one of six teams under Singapore Pools' Staff Community Programme, i-SHINE (Serving from the Heart and In Nurturing Everyone) to commemorate Singapore’s 45th birthday.

Mr Wong Cheong Yin, 83, a SAGE resident, led participants in reciting the Singapore pledge. Everyone waved the national flag enthusiastically for the National Anthem that followed. Residents were then treated to a musical presentation by Faith Music Centre and singing by Singapore Pools staff before tucking into a sumptuous high-tea.

Madam Cynthia Phua, Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC, Grassroots leaders from Kovan Paya Lebar Community Club and Mr John Teo, Chief Financial Officer of Singapore Pools also joined the memorable afternoon soiree that brought much cheer and laughter to the senior citizens.

i-Friend volunteers have been volunteering and bringing comfort to the elderly friends at the SAGE since 2003. SAGE aims to provide quality care to the aged sick and destitute and to help them lead a meaningful and enriching life. Its vision is to add years of quality life to the elderly.
