Project SPHERE stands for Students, Singapore Pools and HDB Enriching and Reaching Out to the Elderly. This is a joint initiative between Singapore Pools, Tote Board, Housing Development Board and the Ministry of Education.
Since its inception in 2002, Project SPHERE has benefitted about 88,000 elderly residents from over 108 rental blocks. About 117,000 students have participated and organised close to 3,000 activities for the elderly. Singapore Pools and Tote Board have contributed more than $1 million since the start of Project SPHERE.
Singapore Pools staff also volunteers alongside students in spring-cleaning and engagement activities for the needy elderly. Since 2011, 146 Singapore Pools volunteers have reached out to more than 219 needy elderly alongside 433 students.
