Singapore Pools i-SHINE volunteers capped off the year with a unique fundraising event called "Breakfast With A Heart 2013", held at Gardens By The Bay in December 2013. A total of $170,000 was raised in aid of S R Nathan Education Upliftment Fund, thanks to the strong support from more than 200 corporate and individual donors for the worthy cause.

The event kicked off with a leisurely morning walk, flagged off by Mr Masagos, Senior Minister of State for Home Affairs and Foreign Affairs, at the Flower Dome. About 300 participants led by other members of parliament, including Mr Seah Kian Peng, Mr Lim Biow Chuan, and Mr Zainudin Nordin, then took a scenic stroll to the breakfast venue, Satay By The Bay. Awaiting the guests were 3 sets of nasi lemak dish, served one after another for their savouring. These delicious breakfast sets were handpicked from 3 popular award-winning stalls: Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak from Boon Lay Place Market, D'Authentic Nasi Lemak from Marine Parade Central Food Centre and Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak from the Adam Road Food Centre.

Without knowing which one came from which stall, guests were asked to vote for their favourite nasi lemak after enjoying their hearty breakfast. Two well-known foodies, Mr Heman Tan, committee member of the Singapore Chef Association (SCA) and Mr Moses Lim, ex-TV personality and Honorary Ambassador for SCA were also present at the event. They gave their professional review of the three nasi lemak sets sampled earlier and went on to share anecdotes about this familiar favourite dish among many Singaporeans. In the end, based on popular choice with more than half the attendees voting it as the best, Selera Rasa Nasi Lemak won the other two stalls hands-down with a total of 166 votes.

This is the first time that Singapore Pools has organised "Breakfast With A Heart". Tickets for this interesting, tasty and meaningful affair were sold at $100 each to contribute to the Education Upliftment Fund set up by Mr S R Nathan, Singapore's sixth President. The fund aims to help children from low-income families receive quality education and skills that will enable them to acquire a better life for themselves and their families.
