The children’s eyes widened in amazement as they gazed at Prince, the 4m tall, 27m long, 150 million-year-old diplodocid sauropod, and listened attentively as the guide told the story of Prince, Apollo and Twinky, the trio of dinosaur skeletons that are the star attractions at the Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum.

Organized by staff volunteers from Team TL&C (Tender Loving & Care) under Singapore Pools' iShine Staff Community Programme, the experiential learning tour for children from Sunbeam Place took place on 8 Sep 2015.

Thirty iShine volunteers chaperoned the children as they took an intriguing peek into the world of natural history. They then formed teams and embarked on a treasure hunt to search for clues and answers in the museum based on information shared during the tour.

“I learnt a lot today but the best part was seeing the dinosaurs!” exclaimed an excited 8-year-old at the end of the tour.

Sunbeam Place, run by the Singapore Children’s Society, is gazetted as a Place of Safety for abused or neglected children in need of protection, or whose parents are unable to provide proper care. The Home has been one of iShine’s adopted beneficiaries since 2003. Apart from running a reading programme, Team TL&C organizes events with the aim of equipping the children with new knowledge, inculcating positive values and offering friendship and a listening ear.
