Did you know that the island-state of Singapore ranks 26th out of 142 countries in terms of carbon emissions at 8.2 tonnes per capita? If we continue business-as-usual, total emissions are expected to reach 77.2 million tonnes by 2020*!

To help staff understand what we can do to reduce our carbon footprint, iShine Team Earth Buddiz organised a lunchtime talk on the topic, "Low Carbon Tips for Individuals", with guest speaker Ms Nuramirah Suyin from the Singapore Environment Council, on 6 May 2016. Ms Nuramirah shared about the risks of high carbon emissions and recommended various ways to reduce carbon emissions at home and in the office.

Following the talk, Earth Buddiz organised an activity, "Operation WE Clean Up!" which was initiated by the Public Hygiene Council, on 8 May 2016. This nation-wide exercise rallied everyone to take ownership of a clean Singapore. Singapore Pools staff and family members cleared litter around Middle Road and Prinsep Street, where Singapore Pools Building is located. The effort not only raised greater awareness of the impact of littering on our immediate environment, but also the hard work by cleaners to keep Singapore clean.

Said Ms Sharon Choo, Corporate Communications Manager, who attended both events by Earth Buddiz, "The talk was a good reminder that even as individuals, we can slow down global warming through everyday actions like our food choices, power consumption and even how we get to work. "Operation We Clean Up" highlighted to me and my family that littering is still a problem in Singapore and we all need to do our part to keep our shared spaces clean."

Team Earth Buddiz is made up staff volunteers who are passionate about promoting a greener lifestyle and conserving the environment. They have been championing the green cause at Singapore Pools since 2003, in partnership with the Nature Society (Singapore) and Singapore Environment Council.
