S.LEAGUE
S.League2012 promises to be an exciting year for Singapore football with the return of the LionsX11 to the Malaysia Cup and League tournaments and the inclusion of Malaysia’s Young Tigers (Harimau Muda) in the 2012 S.League season.

Also rejoining the S.League this year is Brunei DPM – a team that captured the hearts and admiration of many fans with their smooth flowing and hard fighting football.

The S.League set for yet another nail-biting campaign following last season’s thrilling conclusion that saw Tampines clinching the title by a single point above Home United.

It looks like at least a three-horse race this season, with the Stags looking likely to defend their crown strongly, having kept most of 2011’s winning team, while the Protectors look set to challenge again after fine-tuning their squad and perennial contenders SAFFC has significantly boosted their squad after two barren seasons.

Much of the new season’s surprises could also be served up by the two entrants to the league, Brunei DPMM, which won the League Cup in their debut season in 2009 with an attacking style of football that thrilled the crowds, and debutant Harimau Muda , Malaysia’s under-23 side comprising the cream of the Malaysian soccer talent. They can be expected to bring with them a revival of the fierce rivalry on the two sides of the Causeway.

The 2012 season will have a two-round on a home-and-away basis. Matches will be played on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and one match will be telecast Live each week.

Clubs are also financially better off this season with a bigger allocation of seed money from the Football Association of Singapore. This has assisted the clubs to recruit exciting footballers from abroad as well as talented local.
