Bishan - This gentleman in his early forties is a true romantic at heart. He travels extensively for work and looks forward to nothing more than quiet dinners with his wife when he is back in Singapore. He was having a meal in Bishan when on the spur of the moment decided to place a bet for the Toto Hongbao draw. His wife was surprised, as she knew he was never a Toto player. He always preferred to play 4D. He too was very surprised to find out he had won in the Toto Hongbao Draw because this was only the 2nd time he had ever bought a Toto ticket. So what does he plan to do with his winnings? Why, to surprise his wife with a house of course.

Serangoon North - Life has not been easy for this man in his late 50s. Toiling all his life as a blue collared worker, he has been thinking of retirement of late. But with little savings, a wife to support plus he was still living with a relative, he was not sure it was something he could afford. And now, his only transport, a bicycle, which has seen much better days, had broken down again. He wheeled the bicycle to a shop he knew in Serangoon North to have it repaired. As he waited for his bicycle to be fixed, he saw a crowd at the nearby Singapore Pools outlet. He decided to place a bet for the Toto Hongbao Draw. He usually places a $1 Toto bet but because it was the festive period he decided a little leeway was allowed and bought $2 worth of ordinary quickpicks. This man is now all smiles as he can now afford to buy a roof over his head with money left for his retirement. As for his bicycle, it is now fixed and is still his mode of transportation.

Serangoon Road - This man in his early fifties knew his son is destined for greater things in life. He himself did not have much education, but he knew that a good university education was an important start for his son's future. He has been delaying a medical procedure for a while now to finance his youngest son to study abroad. During the festive period, he was walking past Singapore Pools outlet when he decided to buy a $28 Prosperity Pack. He said the outlet was bright and spacious and he felt comfortable in it so he decided to try his luck. And as luck would have it, this man can now comfortably send his son overseas to study as well as go for his own medical procedure
Teban Gardens - The feisty lady in her late 60s stared intently at the teletext screen. She knew she had won the 2N2 special prize, but she thought she saw more. As the page flicked back to the results, she almost cried out in joy. She quickly called her daughter who was working abroad to tell her the good news. "Calm down mum," was the response. Her daughter feared her mum's eyesight might not be what it used to be. So she called her brother. "Please help check on mum. She thinks she's won first prize for the Singapore Sweep." So the son dutifully calls on his mum after buying 2 of the local evening Chinese papers to confirm the results. All the results match. "Don't be too excited mum," reasoned the son, "it could all be a mistake." The winner of the February Sweepstakes was proven right when the cheque was finally presented to her. Not only can she repay some monies she owed relatives, she can also have the satisfaction of saying to her children, "Mother knows best!" |
