Background

The history of motorsport, or competitive sporting events featuring the use of motorized vehicles, dates back to more than 120 years ago, and there are many types of motorsport competitions known to the world. Of all these, the most famous and also the highest level of Motor Racing traces its roots to the Grand Prix races of the 1920s, and the first World Championship race was held in 1950 in Britain.

2019 marks the 70th anniversary of the sport of Motor Racing, with race locations spanning the globe and including countries such as Australia, Azerbaijan, Monaco, Canada, Belgium and Brazil. Changes in the driver lineups for the participating teams will introduce interesting shifts in the balance of power in Motor Racing, and technical regulation changes will make this year's cars push the limits of speed and power even further.

Facts

Same route, same scenery

All 21 locations that featured in the 2018 Motor Racing season will be used again in 2019, giving fans plenty of familiar scenery. The races will also be scheduled in the same order.

Pole position holder may not necessarily finish first

Starting first does not always mean finishing first. Of the 21 races held in the 2018 season, 10 saw the driver who claimed pole position in the qualifying session go on to win the main race.

Singapore hosts Motor Racing for the 12th time

Singapore will feature in the Motor Racing calendar for the 12th consecutive year. The Marina Bay Street Circuit hosted its first race in 2008, and has produced just four different winners in the 11 races since then.

Race completion success rate

None of the 21 races in the 2018 season saw all drivers complete the race. The China Race came closest, as 19 drivers completed the full distance and one dropped out with 51 out of 56 laps completed.
