ASIAN CUP / 亚洲杯

The Asian Cup competition will be held from July 7 2007 to July 29 2007 at four different venues – Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and Vietam. This is the first time that four countries have been selected to host this competition.

The competition is held every four years once. A total of 28 Asian countries participated in the preliminary round and from this elimination round 12 teams will qualify for the final round.

The 2007 Asia Cup championship will be the first major tournament for Australia a new member of the Asian Football Confederation. Countries such as Korea Republic, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have dominated the competition.

Saudi Arabia, Japan and Iran have won the tournament on three occasions.

Defending champions are Japan who beat China 3-1 in the final in China in 2004.
