Singapore, 8 June 2024 – Singapore Pools Football with a Heart (FWAH), the annual fundraiser organised by Singapore Pools, Football Association Singapore and Sport Singapore in partnership with Tote Board has garnered a record-breaking $1,258,750 in donations. The ninth edition of FWAH has grown into a dynamic two-day event over 8 and 9 June at the National Stadium supported by venue partner Singapore Sports Hub. The event was graced by two guests of honour – Mr. Chee Hong Tat, Minister for Transport and Second Minister for Finance, and Mr. Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law.
Mr Lam Chee Weng, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Pools, said, "We are heartened to have the support of many corporate partners and organisations who have joined us to do good through sports. Football has the power to unite communities, foster inclusivity and drive positive impact and this year we have teamed up with People’s Association to add a Children Tournament in addition to the mainstay of the Corporate and Youth Tournaments. I’m glad that through our collective efforts and collaboration, many aspiring players will have the opportunity to play on the National Stadium pitch, and in doing so, benefit the underserved communities through the funds we have raised."
On the second day of the event, the People’s Association (PA) will mark the 20th anniversary of the PAssion Community Football (PACF) programme with a children’s tournament featuring special appearances from Grassroots Advisers (GRAs), who will play a friendly game with the children. Supported by the POSB PAssion Kids Fund, the PACF programme has benefitted more than 20,000 participants over the past years.
The funds raised for FWAH 2024 will be channelled to five beneficiaries – ART:DIS, iShine Cloud Limited, Loving Heart Multi-Service Centre, SportCares and TOUCH Community Services.
Over two days, a total of 53 corporate teams, along with 42 youth teams and 70 children teams, Grassroots Advisers, local para-athletes, media personalities, and former national football players, participated in the tournaments and charity matches. CTC Global emerged victorious in the Cup Category of the Corporate Tournament, while Kallang Alive Sport Management (KASM) was champions of the Plate Category. Radio personalities like Joakim Gomez, Edward Russell, Ravi G, played against the Para-athletes team of Tay Wei Ming (Badminton), Xavier Lim (Badminton) and Nur Aini (Powerlifting). The second charity tournament on 9 June will see Team Parliamentarians comprising Minister Edwin Tong, Speaker of Parliament Seah Kian Peng, Mayor Fahmi Aliman, MP Melvin Yong, MP Sharael Taha pit against Singapore’s football legends.
