Introduced in 2022, the CARE award recognises companies that have exemplary mental well-being practices and highlights them as employers of choice. Singapore Pools was among nineteen organisations that received the award at this year’s WSH Awards, where a total of 323 companies and individuals were honoured.

Cognizant that workplace mental well-being is supported by many aspects of organizational culture, including leadership, communication practices, opportunities for growth and development, and the provision of resources and support systems, SPPL adopts a holistic approach towards employee well-being for its diverse and multi-generational workforce of over 1000 full-time employees. Its “Best People” strategy aims to create a great place to work, defined by an employee experience that fosters purpose and pride, in a vibrant, learning-oriented, and caring workplace. It takes a proactive and long-term approach to foster a workplace culture where its people can thrive.

Culture & Strategy

Leadership commitment is pivotal in shaping a robust workplace wellness culture. This commitment is demonstrated through investments in resources and participation in initiatives. Leadership and management practices are further strengthened by programmes such as the Leadership Development Programme which includes 360-Degree Feedback Surveys, coaching and training. These efforts ensure that leaders are well-equipped to guide their teams effectively. Additionally, a strong organizational purpose is continuously reinforced, fostering a sense of direction and unity among employees. This is complemented by a culture of care, where the well-being of employees is prioritized, creating a supportive and nurturing work environment.

Support Systems

A well-rounded support system is essential for maintaining a healthy and productive workplace. Health and safety policies, including the Workplace Safety, Security & Health Policy and Workplace Harassment Policy, are crucial in ensuring a safe working environment. These policies are supported by the Whistle Blowing Policy and Grievance Handling Procedure. Flexible work policies, such as Flexi-Load, Flexi-Time and Flexi-Place, cater to the diverse needs of employees, promoting work-life balance. Effective communication and feedback platforms, including regular communications, town halls, and skip-level sessions, ensure that employees’ voices are heard. Recognition and rewards programs, such as Long Service Awards, Retail Excellence Awards and CEO Innovation Awards motivate employees and acknowledge their contributions. Monitoring through employee surveys to continually improve the workplace. A conducive physical work environment, with spaces for collaboration, quiet work, and Moms@Work rooms, further enhances employee satisfaction.

Support Resources

(Monthly exercise classes bring Singapore Pools staff together, fostering camaraderie and promoting wellness among peers.)

Support resources play a crucial role in employee development and well-being. Career tracks, training, and opportunities for progression, along with recognition for achievements, help employees grow professionally. Mental wellbeing resources, including self-care initiatives, coaching, clinical counselling, EAP services, a 24/7 helpline, support employees’ mental health. From November 2023, these resources were extended to immediate family members of employees. Physical wellbeing is promoted through exercise classes and free basic health screenings. Social well-being is fostered through initiatives that build camaraderie and a sense of community. Employee benefits, such as wellness dollars, corporate memberships to local attractions, Birthday Leave, and Family Care Leave, enhance overall satisfaction. Additionally, care for the community is encouraged through staff volunteerism, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to social responsibility.

(Employees are provided with access to mental wellbeing resources, ranging from digital self-care programmes, on-demand coaching, clinical counselling, 24/7 helpline, talks and workshops by experts.)

Receiving the CARE Award 2024 underscores our dedication to creating a workplace where employees feel supported and can thrive, contributing to our collective success.
