Singapore Pools is pleased to share its official participation in the Dementia-Friendly Singapore (DFSG) initiative. This important initiative aims to build a compassionate and inclusive society where individuals living with dementia feel supported, respected, and empowered. By engaging communities across Singapore, DFSG ensures that people with dementia and their families can live and age well within their neighborhoods.

What is a Dementia-Friendly Community?

A Dementia-Friendly Community (DFC) is one where:

  • People are aware of dementia and understand how to communicate effectively with those living with the condition.
  • Resources are available for early detection and support of individuals with dementia.
  • Persons living with dementia and their caregivers feel supported and understood.
  • Businesses and services show respect and offer assistance to individuals with dementia.
  • Environments are designed to be safe and easy to navigate for those living with dementia.

To date, 53 Singapore Pools employees have completed the mandatory training to be equipped with knowledge to identify and support people with dementia, and five outlets have been officially certified as Dementia Go-To Points (GTPs) where staff are trained to assist individuals with dementia who may be lost or in need of help. More employees and branches will soon be certified.

The following Singapore Pools outlets are certified as Dementia Go-To Points, equipped with resources such as dementia education materials and practical resources for caregivers:

  1. Singapore Pools Bukit Batok Central: Blk 642 Bukit Batok Central #01-56
  2. Singapore Pools Bukit Gombak: Blk 374 Bukit Batok St 31 #01-170
  3. Singapore Pools Clementi N3: Blk 325 Clementi Avenue 5 #01-145
  4. Singapore Pools Clementi Town Centre: Blk 446 Clementi Avenue 3 #01-183
  5. Singapore Pools Northpoint City: 930 Yishun Avenue 2 #02-03 (North Wing)

Expanding Our Efforts

An additional 20 Singapore Pools outlets are expected to complete the online training by the end of May 2025, with certification to follow. This expansion will allow even more locations to offer assistance to individuals with dementia and their caregivers across Singapore.

Branch Manager, Ms Ericia Lee from Clementi Town Centre branch shared, "Being part of the Dementia Go-To Point initiative is a meaningful responsibility—an opportunity to make a difference, even in small ways. By helping customers with dementia and engaging with the wider public, we are creating a ripple effect of dementia awareness. However, balancing customer service with the added responsibilities of a Dementia GTP is challenging. Clear signage and a calming atmosphere are essential to maintaining both quality care and efficient service. Additionally, identifying branches with sufficient space will help accommodate customers with dementia and minimize disruptions."

Branch Manager, Mr Tan Kok Hiong from Bukit Gombak branch added, " This program provides a supportive environment to assist people with dementia who may be lost and need help finding their way home. I feel proud to be part of this initiative, which helps create a safer neighborhood for people living with dementia."

At Singapore Pools, we remain committed to supporting individuals living with dementia and their families. Through staff training, the establishment of Dementia Go-To Points, and raising awareness in the community, we aim to help build a safer, more inclusive society.
